    A Message from our Principal

       For those of you who are visiting us for the first time, I would like to provide you with a little background of our school.  North Harford Elementary was built in 1984.   We serve a rural, scenic area of northern Harford County.   While some members of our school community represent second and third generation northern Harford County families, growing numbers of new families have added to the diversity of our school population.

    Our self-contained classrooms open to a pod area that is used for large group instruction and various group activities.  Each classroom and pod area has several computers and connections to the Internet.  Our computer lab has twenty-six computers, each capable of accessing the Internet individually.  The North Harford Elementary School grounds include an exercise trail, outdoor classroom, environmental education area as well as a pavilion with picnic tables.  In addition, we share a large campus with North Harford Middle School and North Harford High School, which enables us to utilize their various resources for instruction.

    North Harford Elementary School teachers and staff use wide variety of methods with an emphasis on reading, mathematics and writing in all areas of the curriculum.  Some of the ways that we enable students to learn at an optimum level include project work, integration of subject areas and differentiated instruction.  :Lessons utilize many grouping situations such as whole group, small group and individual work.  The focus of our school improvement plan includes:

• high expectations for all students and school-wide accountability for results;
• school-wide emphasis on practical application of academic knowledge to authentic problems;
• use of assessments that measure actual student and school performance;
• organization of the school into small learning communities; and
• sensible use of the best technology for everyone.

    As you can see, there are many exciting things happening at North Harford Elementary.  We hope you will become an active member of our school family and help us ensure that the children make North Harford proud by soaring on the wings of success!
